Sarah Reid, the British Council Country Director in Mauritius, has more than 15 years’ experience in international education, with roles spanning teaching, programme and product development, and country, regional and global leadership.
Sarah began her British Council career as a teacher in Colombia before moving into academic and management roles in Mexico. She later spent several years working across the Middle East and North Africa, where she led the development and implementation of programmes for young learners across the region. Most recently, Sarah worked globally on the British Council’s adult English portfolio, bringing together colleagues and expertise from across the organisation to develop learning programmes for adults around the world.
Sarah says: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to work in Mauritius and to learn more about this beautiful and fascinating country. I’m particularly excited to be working in a country with such strong ambitions for education and a real appetite for innovation and new opportunities. I’m looking forward to working closely with new colleagues, partners and communities, learning from them and seeing first-hand the difference our work can make. And, on a personal level, I’m very much looking forward to exploring Mauritius – its mountains, coastline and extraordinary wildlife.”
Sarah is passionate about education and its power to create opportunities and open new possibilities for people. She is particularly interested in how innovation, creativity and high-quality educational practice can help people develop the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
The British Council builds connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and other countries through arts and culture, education and the English language. Sarah is looking forward to building on the British Council’s work in Mauritius, strengthening partnerships and exploring new opportunities for collaboration between Mauritius and the UK.
