Niamh Allen, the British Council County Director in Mauritius has had a career in Teaching and Business Development spanning over 24 years, with extensive experience in Asia and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
Niamh started her career with the British Council as an hourly paid teacher in Singapore. She then held a variety of roles in Singapore, including working with the Ministry of Education, before moving to a regional role as Regional Manager for Teaching Quality in East Asia (EA). In 2014, she moved to Dubai as Business Development Manager for Young Learners in MENA, a role she thoroughly enjoyed.
Niamh says ''Having worked in both EA and MENA, I am now very excited to have the opportunity to work in SSA, and be lucky enough to be posted in Mauritius. This is my first Country Director Role so I am looking forward to building on my Teaching Centre experience and widen my focus on Programmes, Education, Exams and Arts.''
Niamh is married and has two children – Oliver and Sophie.
The British Council aims to build opportunities that benefit people in Mauritius and the UK. Niamh is keen to continue supporting relations between the UK and Mauritius, through strengthening British Council’s work here and developing stronger partnerships with Mauritian organisations and people.
